A short overview of some of my ancestors. George Edward Alexander Lamont my Great Great Grandfather, was allegedly born in 1855 in Christchurch New Zealand according to the birth certificate of both of his sons, Leslie George Palmer Lamont, and Lincoln Frank Lamont. He was a Civil Servant. Johanna Lamont (nee McNamara) my Great Great Grandmother was born on the 25th April 1865 in Kangaroo Flat and married my Great Grandfather George Edward Alexander Lamont in 1888. Alma Humphery (nee Woolls Cobb) (My mothers mother) was born in Murchison Victoria on 21st November 1897 and died 1st October 1987. Alma had two sisters Jessie Evans and Amy Matilda and one brother Alfred Uriah and worked as a dental mechanic. She married Lou in 1924. Louis (Lou) Humphery (My Mums father) was born at Edwardstown/Plympton South Australia on 19th November 1894 to Frederick George Humphery and Nellie Humphery (nee Morton) and died on the 13th November 1970. Lou had four brothers Horace, William, Frederick, Richard and three sister’s Rose, Dora and Grace. Rose, Dora and Doris all died very young. Lou was a Methodist minister, later joining the Presbyterian Church. His family lived in Broken Hill, Snowtown, Maitland, Enfield, Unley, Frankston. Leslie George Palmer Lamont (My grandfather) was born 6th August 1888 in Ascot Vale Victoria to George Edward Alexander Lamont formerly of Christchurch New Zealand and Johanna Lamont (nee McNamara) formerly of Talbot Victoria. He married Hannah Margaret Lamont (nee Reilly) in 1911. Hannah Margaret Lamont (nee Reilley) my Dads Mother, was born in 1887 in Beechworth central Victoria. Some knew her as Eileen. Her father was a warden at the Beechworth Goal. She died in 1967. Jean Morton Lamont (nee Humphery) my Mother, born on 5th December 1926 at Broken Hill (NSW) the second of five daughters. She died on October 17th 1998. Grew up in SA. Attended the Methodist Ladies College in Adelaide at the age of 11 and spent 1938, 1939 and 1940 there. Joined the WAAF and after the war nursed at the Frankston Orthopaedic Children's hospital. Worked at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. Joined the Heidelberg City Choir in 1967 sang with the Diamond Valley Choir, was a member of the Box Hill Choral Society. Leslie Osmond Lamont my father, born on the 10th February 1915 at Ascot Vale in Melbourne. Studied at the Melbourne Technical College (RMIT) between 1935 and 1941 in the area of Mechanical Engineering, conducted an apprenticeship at the Dunlop Rubber Australia at their Montague Factory and also the Aircraft engine division. Joined the RAAF and part of the 115th Air Sea Rescue Flight at Morotai. Worked for Gibson Battle in SA then Marfleight and Weight (Marweight). Died in Sydney on the 28th March 1965. Margaret Lamont a sister to my father. Grew up in Frankston and Adelaide. Attended Toorak Ladies College in Frankston. Mums Sisters George Phillip Lamont Dads brother. Born on 28th November 1912. Married Gretchen Anna Bauer (born 27th September 1909) on the 28th February 1942. Lived in a number of locations including Narbethong in Victoria and Unley in South Australia. They had two children Helga Philippa and Sheridan Piet. He spent time at Coober Pedy and Queensland. Died 17th July 2002 at the age of 89 in SA. Gretchen Lamont (nee Bauer) Georges wife and mother to Helga and Piet. Hairdresser by trade. Born in Melbourne in 1909 to Franz Oscar and Margaret Bauer (nee Biesterfeldt). Died on the 25th of August 1980. Helga Philipa Kern ( nee Lamont) first born to George and Greta, married and lives in SA. Sheridan Piet Lamont born on the 12th of April 1950. Married Barbara Theilking lived in Coober Pedy, South Australia. Initially worked as a school teacher. Piet died in 2006. Ian Charles Lamont first child to Les and Jean Lamont. I spent the first 10 years in Adelaide attending no less than four primary schools over a period of two years including Mitcham, Upper Mitcham, Waverley Gardens and Clapham Primary School. Attended the St Ives Central Primary NSW, St Ives High School in 1965 then in Melbourne attended the Watsonia High School from 1966. Philip Lamont my brother second born to Les and Jean Lamont. His early schooling included a limited time in Adelaide. While the family lived in Sydney Philip attend the St Ives Central Primary school. The majority of his schooling life was in Melbourne.
